Mark Rein (Epic Games Vice President) was interviewed by Euro Gamer about the Wii U. He stated that he is confident that the Wii U will succeed as a huge hit when It is released later this year after E3. Rein also stated that he believes parents are now ready to upgrade their kids existing Wii systems.

“I like the Wii U. I think E3 will be a big eye-opener for people.”

“I played Batman: Arkham City on the Wii U and they are doing some really cool stuff with the controller.

“Do you remember the Zelda demo they had on it? Would you not buy a Wii U just to play that? Of course you would. That’s what Nintendo is all about. Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content. That Zelda demo was gorgeous and we can do even more than that with Unreal Engine 3. I think it will do great.”

“It’s a great brand that a lot of parents really trust and they’re probably ready to buy their kids an HD Wii that does that much more than just being an HD Wii.

“I’d love it if they’d done it last year, but I’m excited for them to do it this year. I’d be shocked if it doesn’t do well.

“Did you play that Battle Mii game? Two players would play with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk and one would play with the Wii U controller?

“I would buy a Wii U to play that game in a heartbeat. And I hope people make those kind of games with our technology. I think we’ve yet to really see what the Wii U can do and I think at E3 this year they’re going to shock us.”

Nintendo Not Interested in DLC

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has Told AOL’s Games Blog that Nintendo isn’t interested in First Party Downloadable Content as they wish to make the consumer feel they have bought the full game. Nintendo may add additional downloadable content after launch, but only when it makes sense to for the company to do so and not necessarily for a charge.

“We’re interested in it to the extent that it makes sense to the consumer.”

“I’ve had this conversation with a number of our key developers, and their mentality is, ‘Reggie, when we sell a game, we want the consumer to feel that they’ve had a complete experience.’

“Now, in addition, if we want to make other things available, great, and we’ll look at that. But we’re unwilling to sell a piece of a game upfront and, if you will, force a consumer to buy more later.

“That’s what they don’t want to do, and I completely agree. I think the consumer wants to get, for their money, a complete experience, and then we have opportunities to provide more on top of that.”

Wii’s Drawsome Tablet Will ‘Test The Market’ For Wii U

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot claims that the company’s recently announced Drawsome tablet for the Wii ‘will help test the market’ for the Wii U before Nintendo’s next console hits stores sometime after April 2012.

“What’s extremely interesting is it’s also a way for us to test the market for the Wii U, as the products we create for [Drawsome] will be helping us to understand what the problems are going to be for consumers,” he said. “So it’s a way to get into the tablet process for a console that is in homes.”

Ubisoft Think Wii U Will Be Excellent For Casual Games, Will Be A Big Success

leave a comment »

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has been impressed by the Wii U and has seen big chances for the console. In a recent article he says that he believes that the console will do great in the casual market. Although it’s good to have the best of both worlds lets hope that Ubisoft doesn’t focus making casual games other then more hardcore ones.

“We are big believers in the Wii U, on two subjects. One is for high-end games, where we’ll be able to do a game for the Wii U, but also for other [high-definition] machines, but also with specific use of [Wii U’s] tablet. Two, is we like the Wii U for all the [potential of] casual games.”

“Today, the Wii still is 45 percent of our business. Just Dance, all those casual games, are selling extremely well. So we are supporting the machine because we believe Nintendo is going to push it to another level. We think [Wii U] will be successful.”

“Now to [what audience] will it be addressed? We don’t exactly know yet,” he conceded. “But the potential of the machine, and the tablet [controller], I think is a good way to improve the potential gameplay. What we see is the ease of play is a part of the revolution we are seeing today. The fact that it’s easier to access games is what can make more people play. Maybe they can do a good job there.”
