Latest Batch Of Wii U Rumours

leave a comment »

More speculation and rumours about the Wii U have come from a member of the popular gaming forum Neogaf. The forum member claims that 720p appears to be the best resolution for games that use the Wii U second screen intensively, and that the controller displays games at a maximum resolution of 480p.

  • 720p seems to be the sweet spot for definition with games running Wii U controller-intensive visuals
  • Wii U controller handles 480p
  • Wii U controller allows for viewing of on-TV action from another angle in some games
  • Seems that there are some third-party ports using this idea for gameplay
  • V5 dev kit is a little more powerful than V4, but doesn’t make for 1080p in these situations
  • Games can benefit from a slight visual boost over 360/PS3 and may run at a higher resolution
  • More simple titles may be able to run 1080p in conjunction with the controller

Secondly, Insomniac may have a game in development called Overstrike. Insomniac have been the developers behind Resistance and Ratchet & Clank.

A new rumor suggests that the next generation Xbox may have a touch-screen controller.

According to a report from Xbox World magazine, the controller will be “an HD screen surrounded by the traditional 360 buttons and sticks.” The magazine goes on to state that the controller “could be a remote control when you’re watching TV, a browser when you’re on the internet, extra buttons and information when you’re playing a game or a portable display when you want to take your game with you.” Sounds Like Wii U Doesn’t it?

Batman Arkham City Developer Making Mature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game for Wii U?

leave a comment »

Another day, another rumour, this time from the Paul Gale network who state that Rocksteady, the development team behind the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City, are hard at work creating a dark open world Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for Wii U, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Here’s a few of the details:

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis is the alleged name of the title.
  • Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are the four playable characters, each with their own varied move set and weapon of choice (sword, bo staff, sai, and nunchucku…respectively).
  • Flashbacks are played as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi.
  • Shurikens, smoke bombs, grappling hooks, and climbing foot spikes.
  • Gameplay and story/stage progression similar to Batman: Arkham City.
  • Classic characters such as Bebop and Rocksteady (warthog and rhinoceros), Dr. Baxter Stockman, Shredder (Oroku Saki), and Krang act as bosses and in the case of the humans-turned-mutants, you fight them in both forms throughout the story.
  • The Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp will be present and with them and other gadgets, the Wii U build is expected to have touch screen controls for specific actions.
  • Multiplayer is unknown.
  • Graphics engine used is that of Arkham City.
  • The game is expected to be more dark than slapstick, but the turtles themselves and their interactions with the Foot Clan, bosses, and story characters like April O’Neil and Casey Jones will still have comedy attached.
  • Purportedly being in development for Wii U, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
  • Careful selection of voice actors to bring the universe to life as well as Rocksteady did with their two Batman games.
  • Manhattan Crisis shares a similar name to the 1991/1992 NES title, “The Manhattan Project”, but is very much its own title.

Nintendo Network To Rival Xbox Live And PSN?

leave a comment »

Take this information with a pinch of salt but according to Nintendo Enthusiast the Nintendo Network will bring new features that haven’t been used before by Nintendo and the network itself will be a rival to Microsoft’s Xbox Live and Sony’s PlayStation Network.

“A source that wished to remain anonymous has told us that Nintendo will launch a website accessible from any web browser that will handle configuration of your Nintendo Network account for use on the Wii U or 3DS. He also stated that Nintendo Network will include many new features that haven’t been used before by Nintendo. According to his accounts: Nintendo Network = Sony PSN = Xbox Live.”

According to Forget The Box Nintendo is apparently approaching software developers and offering them assistance in porting and publishing software from iOS to the Wii U so that it can be played on the Wii U’s touchscreen controller.

Nintendo is also apparently looking to launch a digital e-reader type service where you can download books, magazines, newspapers, comics, and other publications to your Wii U console. These publications would then stream to your Wii U controller’s touch-screen.
